CD-R Goes Mobile as Portable CD-R
Solution Premieres
CD-Recordable technology hit
the road in September 1996 when Portable Systems Solutions, Inc. announced the
PortaSCSI ShareStore recording solution, a portable system that enables users
to record CDs from PC-compatible notebooks and desktop systems without having
to install the drive or controller. The ShareStore solution bundles the 2X
write/6X read Phillips CD-R with Portable Systems Solutions' Advanced Mobile
PortaSCSI technology and ships with a variety of software applications to
support mobile CD recording and CD backup. Using a standard parallel port and
the SCSI-2 PortaSCSI interface, the sharable CD recorder - also dubbed
ShareStore - is designed to move fluidly among various computer systems for
flexible backup performance and carries a list price of $299.
