Refilling Instructions for All Lexmark Color Printers

  1. Protect work surface with newspaper or paper towels.
  2. Remove depleted color print cartridge from printer according to printer manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Lay cartridge on its side. CAREFULLY using a small sharp blade, work the blade into the joint between the red cap and black cartridge body on all four sides to pry off cap. (Please view the Removing Head From Cartridge video)
  4. Fill syringe with appropriate color ink. Insert the plunger into the corresponding color compartment through either of the two fill holes. Push the needle into the absorbent material as far as it will go. Then draw it back out about 1/4" (6.5mm).
  5. Inject the ink with moderate pressure and keep dispensing the ink until you see ink appear at the top of the color compartment. Immediately stop dispensing the ink.

  6. Remove the syringe and replace the red capon the print cartridge and tape into place withadhesive tape. Inspect the print head and wipe off any excess ink immediately to prevent possible contamination of print nozzles.
  7. Place the cartridge back in the printer and run a cleaning cycle and print test following the instructions included with your printer. It may be necessary to repeat the print test several times to bring the color balance back to normal.
  8. Wash syringe with warm water before refilling with another color.

Refilling Instructions for All Lexmark Black Printers (Use Black Pigment Ink Only)

  1. Protect work surface with newspaper or paper towels.
  2. Remove ink cartridge from printer according to printer manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Using drill tool provided, drill the hole using a clockwise twisting motion. Withdraw drill tool. Holding the print cartridge vertically, insert syringe into vent hole as far as it will go.

  4. Fill syringe with 10 mls. of ink.
  5. Gently push the plunger in to inject the ink. Continue dispensing ink until the entire syringe is emptied, or until a droplet of ink appears at the fill hole indicating that the cartridge is full.
  6. Repeat process with another 10 mls. of black ink.
  7. Remove syringe. Blot up any residual ink around air vent with a tissue. Allow a few minutes for the ink to re-wet the print head.
  8. Reinstall the cartridge into the printer and perform the print head cleaning procedure, following the instructions outlined in your printer instruction booklet.
  9. Wash syringe with warm water before refilling with another color.
