Release Date: April 20, 1996
Portable Systems Solutions, Inc. (PSS) releases its newest generation multimedia upgrade kit for laptop/notebook computers.
The PortaSCSI Multiporttm Portable Multimedia Kit includes a quad speed CD-ROM drive, as well as, a 16-bit audio PCCard adapter and speakers. As compared to bulky "all-in-one" multimedia players, the PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit is completely transportable, weighs a fraction of the competition's "all-in-one" boxes and can be stored in the same case as the notebook computer. The PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit operates on AA batteries so it can be used without the need for AC power.
With the PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit, users can now enjoy multimedia playback using their current notebook computers, rather than having to replace them with new multimedia enabled notebooks with CD-ROM drives, that often sell for $4,000 to $6,000. Portable Systems Solutions, Inc.'s "plug and play" solution to the multimedia needs of laptop/notebook users, carries an estimated street price of less than $450.
The PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia kit has a dedicated bus for the CD-ROM drive which allows for much smoother multimedia playback when compared with other external multimedia boxes which share the CD-ROM's I/O bus with the audio circuitry. This "multiported" approach provides for fewer dropped video frames and for much more fluid audio, in a multimedia upgrade kit for laptop computers. The PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit is MPC-II compliant for today's multimedia, business presentation and entertainment software.
An additional benefit of PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit is the state-of-the-art SCSI technology. The PortaSCSI interface provides additional expansion capabilities providing a connection for hard drives, removable media drives (like SyQuest and Iomega's Zip/Jazz drives), and for tape drives. All PortaSCSI products are designed for tough "field service" usage - the most rugged of all mobile computing applications. When it comes to mobile, field sales and service applications, PSS has been providing its SCSI expertise to manufacturers, integrators, and computer resellers since 1991.
The PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit is based on proprietary ASIC technology providing a sleek design with the lowest possible component count. Using the PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit requires no tools or "lifting the case," making it a snap to install. No longer will the user be inconvenienced by internal terminators, jumpers, or software resets, and there are no interface cards or hardware conflicts to worry about.
Anyone with an application requiring a compact, light weight, fast (4X rather than 2X), low-cost, high-performance mobile computing multimedia solution will welcome the introduction of PSS's PortaSCSI Multiport Multimedia Kit.
